According to the U.S. Department of Labor, in June 2009, those ages 20-24 had significantly higher unemployment rates than the national average. Avoid these common blunders of recent college grads:

1. Assuming a college degree guarantees you the job you want. Forty percent of 2009's graduating seniors who had job offers by April turned them down, hoping for something better. You may need to take a less-than-perfect job until you earn the entry-level career you want.
2. Forgetting about life experience. Did you participate in any clubs or committees in college; did you gain administrative experience? Did you volunteer at a local shelter, demonstrating your talent for fundraising? It all counts on a resume, and it might just get you noticed.
3. Not taking advantage of resources. A national survey found that graduates who had taken advantage of campus career centers had a greater likelihood of finding jobs.
