Creating Your Flash Resume
In today's sea of paper and electronic resumes, it can be more difficult than ever to stand out from the crowd. I have long been advocates of doing things differently to get yourself noticed, as long as the approach is positive and professional.
A new product called WOWresume is a product that will definitely get you noticed. It puts your resume into Flash format for playback either via mini-CD (and they provide the mini-CD's for you) or played an attachment. It provides you with a unique way to stand out from the crowd, using a combination of graphics, music and Flash animation.
Developing the WOWresume is very straightforward and can be completed in 10-15 minutes (assuming you already have your resume ready to cut-and-paste). You are given several customizing options for background, graphics, text and music that make your WOWresume uniquely your own.
Why does it work? Because it's different. As a hiring manager, I can say without a doubt that I am drawn to anything new and novel, especially where it involves new uses of technology. Other hiring managers are the same way. If you want to stand out in a positive way, this is a great way to do it.
Think of it this way--if you were sitting behind the hiring manager desk and you had a pile of paper resumes in your inbasket, scores of electronic resumes in your inbox and a Flash resume on a mini-CD, which one would you view first? They also offer an editable upgrade version which includes Web hosting for another $13. And there are various packages for purchasing 10, 20 or 50 mini-CD's. Or buy the downloadable version and burn your own CD's (yes, it's OK to copy it on your own). Each mini-CD is worth about $10+ to you for the extra time and attention you'll be given by hiring managers, so figure accordingly. I recommend using it selectively for your top 10-20 target employers.
