The Best College Course for Job Search Prep

Although a course in "Jobs 101" would be popular with most students, very few colleges offer job search training as part of their regular course offerings. There is, however, an excellent course to prepare you for job search success. Nearly every college and university offers it in some form or shape. That course: Speech 101. The dreaded "stand up in front of others and embarrass myself" course that most students try to avoid. If you have not taken this course yet and you still have some electives left, this is an outstanding course to take. It will give you the necessary basic training for expressing yourself eloquently in front of a group of strangers--excellent preparation for the interviewing process that lies just over the horizon.

An alternative to this type of course (or as a continuation for further developing your speaking ability) is to join a local Toastmasters International club. You can find them in the phone book, or call their national headquarters at 800-993-7732 to find out more about a club near you.

By the way, if you are interested in having an actual course in Jobs 101 taught at your college or university, contact CollegeGrad.com. We are currently developing a model curriculum for use at colleges and universities throughout the United States and Canada.
