Forum - Ask the Hiring Manager

QUESTION:

I had a phone interview with a company, the interview seemed sucessful, I was asked to write a brief essay on what I can offer to the company, or why I would be qualified for this position. can you help me answer that question?

From: Mini, Junior, Molloy College

ANSWER FROM BRIAN KRUEGER:

Hi Mini -

The structure would be as follows:

  1. Introductory paragraph, including thanks for the opportunity to write the essay.

  2. Second paragraph, summarizing top three points why you are the best person for the position.

  3. Third through Fifth paragraph - expound on each of the three points with specific behavioral evidence supporting your point.

  4. Sixth paragraph - close - ask for the job!

That's the structure. But the actual content still needs to come from you.

It's a great opportunity for you to really sell yourself to the company. Make the most of it!
