QUESTION:

I have been working as an intern at a company for the past year. Now that I have finished school and ready for full-time employment, I got an offer from the company to stay as full time staff. Am I in a position to negotiate salary?? Or should I just take what was offered?? Thanks!

From: Gilbert Wong, Recent Grad

ANSWER FROM BRIAN KRUEGER:

Hi Gilbert -

The prime time to negotiate salary is between the job offer being extended and job offer acceptance.

However, it's important to make sure you follow the proper technique for doing your negotiation. Check out the various offer negotiation techniques located here at CollegeGrad.com to make sure that you maximize this opportunity.

This is a critical time and you will never be in a better situation to negotiate than you are right now. Make the most of it!
