Forum - Ask the Hiring Manager

QUESTION:

If a student changes universities (2 or 3) because of legitimate reasons, will that affect job prospects?

From: Brian Zingo, Senior, University of Oklahoma

ANSWER FROM BRIAN KRUEGER:

Hi Brian -

Typically not. In fact, when you list your degree on your resume, you should only list the university that you will be graduating from. There is no need to list the 2 or 3 universities attended--just the one you will be graduating from and the degree you will be receiving and the date.

Similarly, if a student changes majors several times, which may extend their college life to 5, 6 or 7 years, there is no need to list the different majors or the amount of time in college.

However, many job applications do ask for specific attendance dates. If this is the case, enter the information accurately and be prepared to answer any questions which come up in this regard.
