Forum - Ask the Hiring Manager

QUESTION:

I graduated in May with a BS in marine science and biology. I have found out this past year that it is extremely difficult to find job listings in this field. I would especialy like to work abroad prior to graduate school. How can I find out if the jobs are out there and I can't find the listings or if the jobs just don't exist for people with Bachelor degrees? I appreciate any help or advice you can give me.

From: Susan Rachel Guthrie, Recent Graduate, Coastal Carolina University

ANSWER FROM BRIAN KRUEGER:

Hi Susan -

The best directory for overseas work is "Directory of American Firms Operating in Foreign Countries" which is published by Uniworld Business Publications. See if you can locate it at your local library. If not, ask if they can get it through inter-library loans.

You are much more likely to find work with an American firm with overseas operations than with a foreign firm. So this resource guide is an excellent way to get started. It lists by country, so you can pick and choose by location.

Happy hunting!
