QUESTION:

I have a question. I just received an offer from a company that I really like. However, another company just called and would like to do a phone interview. This company has more advanced computers and more software packages to learn from, but I can't say that I would definitely get the job, because there are other candidates. Any suggestions?

ANSWER FROM BRIAN KRUEGER:

The answer is simple. You have a bird in the hand from a company you really like. Pursue the second company only if it will not affect your ability to respond to the first. Otherwise, accept what you have. Or you may end up empty-handed.

It is perfectly acceptable to press the second company to move forward rapidly. But if they are not able to meet your time frame, you should NOT accept the job with the first company and continue interviewing. This would be very poor ethics--keep your standards high.

Bottom line is that you are almost employed. Congratulations!
