I am pursuing my Master's degree in Human Resources.
How important is it to have today, since the job market is unquestionable? How do you get the experience if know one will give you a chance? I am taking all these classes HR classes and I can't find a F/T job in Human
Resources. Is my degree worth it?
Thanks!

Hi Pam -
Very few companies require an MS over a BS in HR--your higher degree will help you more later in your career
than earlier. That being said, there are plenty of opportunities in HR at the entry level. Since much of the U.S. is still working at peak employment (at or below structural unemployment of 4%), the demand for experienced
HR professionals is high. That spills over to create additional demand at the entry level.
Is your degree worth it? If you had your undergrad BS or BBA in HR, probably not, at least not for 5-10 years. But if you had
your undergrad in a different field, you made the right choice to complete an MS instead of an additional BS/BBA in HR.
In some ways, your job search will be easier, since you can avoid the "Personnel
shuffle" that often diverts candidates from the true hiring managers. But it will take diligence on your part. Please check out further information at my site or in my book for further guidance in your search.
