I have a speech impediment--stuttering, not considered bad,
though. What can/should I do to make this not a factor in the hiring/interviewing process--to assure the employer that it will not effect my work? I really don't know what to do. Thanks.
Regarding your speech impediment of stuttering, there is nothing you can do to eradicate it from having influence.
It will have an influence, no matter what you do. However, what you can do to lessen any potential negative effect is prepare the employer so that it does not overly influence their view of you.
How difficult is your
stuttering? If it is particularly difficult, you may want to preface any communication with a "standard opening" to explain your situation. Most employers will appreciate you covering the subject directly. But
if it goes unsaid, it may leave open nagging doubts.
Answer their question directly, because if you don't bring it up, they probably will never ask.
P.S. I also have a speech impediment--I have a slight problem
with the "S" sound--but it's not so difficult as to have caused any problems. In fact, I have found that it can work to my advantage in that it makes my voice easier to distinguish.
