Forum - Ask the Hiring Manager
![]()
QUESTION:
Hi,
Thanks a lot for your e-mail. It was very educational...
I don't mean to bother you again but I do have one more question:
I got a letter from a company that said that they were impressed by my resume. They also said that they anticipate a potential job position to come up, and they will contact me then. I quote," Although it appears we have no current positions available for you at the present time, I feel an appropriate situation could develop in the near future. " They have my resume on current file.... The person ended by saying, "We look forward to having an opportunity to work with you."
What kind of a response is this...I've never seen one like this. Is it safe to assume that they are interested and will contact me in the future, or is this a very very polite regection letter.
Please Reply.....
Thank you once again.

ANSWER FROM BRIAN KRUEGER:
Hi again Pankil -
You're right--that is an unusual letter. Certainly doesn't sound canned. But the answer to your question is easy--call them! It gives you a wide open door to walk through in making direct contact with them. Ask what their timing is. Ask who the potential hiring manager is. Ask their title and department. Then contact them and offer your services on a temporary basis to assist in their area until the internal position develops.
You'll have the inside track to the position. And it may end up being yours with little or no competition!
Whatever you do, DON'T wait for them to call you. If you ever do, it will be along with several (or possibly even scores of) others that will decrease your chances for success.
You mentioned in your previous posting that you are unemployed and looking. Now is the time to make your move.
And don't just say "Yeah, that sounds like a good idea..." Do it today!
